How do I find a name I can’t think of?

On the home screen, tap the button for finding a name, then describe what you remember — an actor, a movie, a show, or a thing — in your own words. You can speak it or type it. Whatsit comes back with its best answer, and a few close alternatives if it isn’t sure.

How do I call someone without scrolling my contacts?

Tap the call button and describe the person or place — “drives a yellow car,” “the pharmacy with my pills.” When Whatsit finds who you mean, tap to place the call. It rings through your iPhone’s own Phone or FaceTime.

Can I just talk instead of typing?

Yes. Press once and talk — there’s no rush. Pause, start over, or ramble a little; Whatsit waits until you’re done, then helps. If you’d rather type, you can do that anywhere too.

How do I add the people and places I reach for most?

Open Set up and add a person or place, then give it a few details that help bring the name back. Anyone can do this — you, or family helping out. The more natural the details, the easier they are to find later.

How do I bring in my contacts?

In Set up, choose to import contacts. You pick exactly which ones come in from an A–Z list — nothing is added without you. Whatsit brings in the name, number, and contact photo for the ones you select.

How do I make everything bigger and easier to read?

Open Settings inside the app and choose a text size — Standard, Large, or Larger. The whole app follows your choice.

It didn’t find the right answer. What now?

Try again with a different detail. For a name, mention something else you remember — a co-star, roughly when it came out, what the thing is used for. For a person to call, add another clue like where they live or what they drive. A little more to go on usually does it.

How do I remove someone, or delete my information?

You can delete any person, place, or photo right inside the app. Because your saved information lives on your phone, removing Whatsit from your iPhone deletes that information along with it. More detail is in the privacy policy.

My voice isn’t being picked up

Whatsit needs permission to use the microphone, and a working internet connection to turn speech into text.

1. Open the iPhone’s Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap Whatsit.
3. Make sure Microphone is turned on.
4. Check that you’re connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, then try again.

You can always type instead of speaking if you prefer.

The call won’t go through

Whatsit hands calls to your iPhone’s Phone or FaceTime app, so the person needs a phone number saved with them. Open Set up, find the person, and check that a number is there. If it’s missing, add it and try again.
